In 2024, a local mother living in Hagley village was driven by her passion for fitness and motivation to re-invent running for women in the community, consequently forming; run club.
Prioritising safety, convenience and inclusivity for all women, Sarah began to promote her group runs on Instagram and Facebook focusing on making running ‘more than just a run’. She now provides over 60 sessions to accommodate everyone, from pram push, to over 60s jog, and even half marathon training groups. There is something for anyone no matter the starting point.
Since covid-19, running in local communities has increased by over 1 million runners. Run club now has 3946 followers, growing daily and still maintains several loyal and familiar faces. In several areas multiple groups have formed, each with unique agendas and milestones yet they all share a similar objective … motivating a new era of women who are actively becoming the best version of themselves possible!
The current participants, describe the club as friendly and motivating helping so many become not only physically, but also mentally stronger. One member stated; “so pleased with my time 2hrs 15! Considering I couldn’t run to my nearest lamppost 3 years ago” after completing her first ½ marathon. This is incredible evidence for the transformative effect groups like this are having on women, building confidence they never knew they had.
I strongly believe groups like this should be part of every community, Due to the life changing opportunities, feeling of greater self-worth, resilience and most importantly, a community of strong, powerful women that are formed because of them.
