UK Eurovision Entry Revealed
This year marks the 69th Eurovision song contest, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland, following the victory of Nemo in May 2024 with his song ‘The Code’. The BBC have now announced the UK’s entry for Eurovision: ‘Remember Monday’ with their song ‘What the Hell Just Happened?’. This marks a significant moment, as it's the first time in over 25 years that a girl band will represent the UK at Eurovision.
The group consists of friends who met in Sixth form: Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele. The band gained fame with their appearance on ‘The Voice UK’ in 2019 and have also gained over 500,000 followers on TikTok. They describe themselves as "pop girlies with a little bit of yeehaw", which is reflected in their country-pop-style entry song. Remember Monday's participation in Eurovision 2025 offers a new and vibrant approach, distancing themselves from the UK's recent entries and bringing a new energy to the competition.
Remember Monday wrote ‘What the Hell Just Happened?’ with Brit Award Nominees Billen Ted (who have previously worked with Little Mix and Anne Marie), pop artist Julie ‘Kill J’ Aagaard and Thomas Stengaard who wrote Denmark’s 2013 Eurovision winner, ‘Only Teardrops’.
The UK - along with France, Italy, Spain and Germany - is part of the ‘Big 5’ which is the group of countries who make the biggest financial contributions to the European Broadcasting Union. This means that the UK (Remember Monday) will automatically be included in the Finale. Eurovision 2025 will be taking place on Saturday, the 17th of May this year and the competition will be available to watch live on BBC One.
