What are nicotine pouches?
You’ve probably seen nicotine pouches around or heard people say they’re “safe” because they’re tobacco-free. The truth is, they’re not harmless. Nicotine pouches are small, white, tobacco-free pouches that deliver nicotine through the lining of your mouth.
Nicotine pouches still contain nicotine, which is highly addictive. Once your brain gets used to it, you can feel anxious, irritable, or unable to focus without it — and that can happen quickly, especially while your brain is still developing.
They can also cause:
Gum irritation and mouth problems
Nausea and headaches
Increased heart rate
A higher chance of getting hooked on other nicotine products later
Brands often use bright colours and sweet flavours to make these products look fun, but that doesn’t make them safe. If someone is pressuring you to try them, it’s okay to say no — protecting your health is always more important.
If you’re already using them and want to stop, there’s support available and you don’t have to handle it alone. Reach out to your PT, LT or the college Medical Welfare Officer.
